Everything changes in this world, time does not stand still. And for the design of interiors invented a great variety of options. But the classic is immutable. Classical style will always be the most popular and inimitable. Of course, each style is beautiful in its own way, but the classic is always coziness, sophistication and luxury. But not the luxury that catches the eye and looks pretentious, but light, unobtrusive and noble, emphasizing the status of the owners. The classical style is strictness in its chic appearance. Fundamental are: the correct geometric shapes, the perfection of various patterns, only natural materials and colors. And for all this splendor the living room perfectly fits. It is in the living room that there is enough space to accommodate all the necessary elements and decor, which is in abundance here: pictures in wooden frames, large mirrors (also in frames), fireplaces, and, of course, chandeliers.
All furniture is massive in light or dark wood with gilding or carving. It differs with curved backs and wide armrests. Necessary to use upholstery made of natural fabrics, namely: velor, velvet, tapestry and other fabrics of natural origin, decorated with exquisite patterns. Furniture from fiberboard or MDF does not fit for this style, it will look vulgar and vulgar. The design of the ceiling is always complex and beautiful, it can be molding, friezes, painting. On the windows must be necessarily curtains of the same natural fabrics, decorated with brushes or fringe. If the room is spacious enough, it can be decorated with columns and semicolumns that will create a truly majestic atmosphere of palace eras.
To create the splendor of the classics, the columns are the best suited. They will give any room the nobility of the castle or palace
Note. I want to note at once that the interior classics is a very general concept, therefore there is no clear guidance on the creation of classical premises. The fact is that the classics are a lot of historical styles: the classicism of the reign of Catherine II, the Italian Renaissance, Stalin's Empire, Baroque and Rococo and so on. But one thing is for sure: a classical living room is a richness of decor, natural materials, symmetry and harmony. And nothing artificial.
No artificial elements, clear symmetry and harmony
But for what, after all, many like classical music so much, what are its advantages over other styles?
- the classic is invariable, universal, always relevant and not subject to criticism;
- the classics are majestic, which makes a strong impression on the guests;
- the classic emphasizes the prosperity and good taste of the owners;
- classics in the modern form is very versatile: originality and comfort at the same time.
The requirements that must be met when creating a classic living room
So, the most important requirements, as already mentioned above, are harmony, symmetry and only natural and high-quality materials. This applies to everything: decoration materials, furniture, color palette, decor and accessories. In addition to paintings and mirrors, figurines, stucco moldings, candlesticks, sculptures, vases, bas-reliefs, massive chandeliers made of crystal or expensive glass often serve as decor. Very beautiful and in the spirit of the classics, a chandelier with candles or their imitation looks.
It can be a forged chandelier with imitation candles
She will fill the room with the spirit of knights and kings
Crystal chandeliers are inimitable
It is always lightness, sophistication and refinement
Making out a classic living room, it is important to remember that this style is rich in decor, but does not like congestion. Too much detail, accessories will be inappropriate. For a change, use decorative plaster or painting. And the old piano will be simply an inimitable attribute of this interior. Here everything should be solid and representative, any detail, even the smallest is selected carefully, because it's the little things that make up the big picture. To the interior was rather strict, but elegant pay attention to products from porcelain, as well as antique things. Many designers consider it an integral part of this style of painting with landscapes and portraits, as well as bronze and marble accessories. Classic material for the classical living room is a tree.
They can be trimmed and the ceiling, for example, caissons can be completely or partially made of solid wood. This plays not only a decorative role, but also a constructive one. And it also improves the acoustics in the room. The walls can be paneled with wooden panels.
In addition to wood, walls can have other finishes. The first is cloth, wallpaper or decorative painting. It should look expensive and pompous. No cheap wallpapers or artificial fabrics. The main emphasis is on quality and texture, not a bright color. Another option may be the design of walls with monophonic expensive paints of pastel tones. Here, stucco molding and other three-dimensional elements are already used.
With regard to the finish of the floor, it is best to avoid laminate or a standard board. Only noble coverings. The perfect choice will be a mosaic parquet with abstract compositions of large sizes or floral designs. All this is covered with a bright lacquer. And, naturally, the most appropriate coating for the floor is marble in all its classical manifestations, namely: ornaments, patterns and natural shades of stone.
For classical interiors, especially the living room is not suitable simple decoration of the ceiling, there must be a masterpiece. And the most common way to achieve this goal is stucco molding. With its help, you can create inimitable pictures, the finish of which can be monophonic, and gilded (bronze). Another way is painting. Here all the rules of the classical interior are fully maintained. In addition, the spectacle is amazing. By the way, there is one important subtlety – the classical style assumes high ceilings, so the necessary atmosphere will be created, fully disposed to majestic receptions. If the ceilings are low, then all the massive furniture will seem no longer exquisite, but cumbersome. And stucco molding, columns, curtains with lambrequins will create a nagging feeling. But do not despair if the dimensions of your apartment do not meet the classical standards.
Classic style in small rooms
In the case of small rooms, all attributes need to be made in a slightly reduced version: furniture can also be made from valuable wood species, but have a more modest size; curtains made of natural fabric, but slightly lighter than necessary. Even stucco molding can be present, it is also necessary to make it easier, although it is better to use painting in this case. And what to do with the columns, if they still want to be placed in such a room? For an organic species in a low room, the columns should be placed along the walls, and a wall rack fits well between them.
Another way is the arrangement of columns in the opening, which separates the dining room or kitchen area from the living room. That is, it turns out that the columns will be the design of the entrance area into the living room. We have already said that for this style a voluminous chandelier is characteristic. But in the case of a low living room, you can also use spot lighting. It must be designed in the form of a circle that is characteristic of the classics, and can also be covered with a visor that creates diffused light.
And, of course, the classical living room can not do without a fireplace, it's the top of luxury and grace, which impregnates the whole atmosphere of this style. The best option is a real fireplace, laid out of stone, brick or white marble. But if there is no such possibility, then you should not shy away from imitation or modern bio-fireplaces in the classical portal.
Here most often a preference is given to a calm palette, screaming shades are inappropriate. Beige or cream shades are predominantly chosen. And also other neutral warm colors: soft shades of brown, olive, sand and all shades of wood.
Beige tones will make the classic living room warm and cozy
Pastel palette in combination with white is a squeak of classics
This creates an atmosphere of greatness, refinement and soft hospitality
Beige and brown notes will make the living room calm and relaxing
Any selectable colors for a classic living room should be soft
Sand and olive shades create a cozy and welcoming atmosphere
Harmony and grace are the basic features of the classics. Everything should breathe this
Lighting in such a living room should be multi-level: both plentiful, and soft, and muffled. In the center is always an intricate chandelier, and for the effect of several levels to the main chandelier are added floor lamps, wall sconces, table lamps and so on. Some consider riding the prospect of additional lighting paintings on the walls.
In our time it is not so easy to create an interior of natural classics: too much modern equipment is adjacent to us. But this is a completely solvable task. And if in the kitchen – where there are too many household appliances – it will be difficult to disguise them, then in the living room, things are much easier with this. A small plasma panel can be placed in a niche, and other newfangled devices (air conditioning, audio systems, etc.) can be "hidden" in lockers, pull-out panels, under pictures and furniture elements and so on. But lately there has been less and less classic style in its pure form, it gives way to eclecticism. Here there is a combination of natural classical elements and modern: expensive furniture made of natural wood, noble upholstery and so on and a computer table made of natural wood, a plasma panel on a mahogany cabinet and so on. A very sensitive issue in the classic living room of modern type are the windows and balcony doors. Reliable and relatively inexpensive type are plastic windows and doors, but their whiteness does not fit into the general atmosphere of the classics. And here there are only two options: the first is wooden windows and doors that have reliability, tightness, high quality, good thermal insulation and ecological compatibility. But their only drawback is a high price, but as regards the creation of classical interiors there is no place for saving, everything is saturated with luxury and high prices.
Although there is a second solution to this issue, which is slightly cheaper than the first – it's plastic windows and doors made for a tree. They are more expensive than conventional plastic, but much cheaper than natural wood, and the quality is also at a high level. The most important task of creating a design of a classical drawing room is a careful consideration. Every detail, every accessory should be in its place. After all, one extra element and all the grandeur of the classics will disappear. For all this, a truly subtle taste is needed, which will help to feel this fine line between nobility and pretentiousness. But the spent forces will not be wasted – the greatness of the classics is unchanged.
The classic interior is an art that will never get bored, never disappoint and will forever fall in love with you and your loved ones
